On the Air Chathams' Facebook page today...
The wait is over. Our interline partnership with Air New Zealand is now on sale for flights, connecting to or from Whakatane to anywhere across the Air New Zealand domestic network, from the 24th March 2026 onwards.
This partnership will enable more seamless travel to and from Whakatane.
Bags checked through to final destination
Boarding passes for both airlines provided at check in.
For travellers in and out of the Eastern Bay of Plenty, this means fewer hassles, smoother connections, and more options when planning their next trip.
Regional flying made simpler, just how it should be.

Absolutely amazing!! Have already booked 5 WHK-BHE return flights. Some for as low as $158.00 one way. Really awesome seeing Whakatane flights back in my Air New Zealand app. Unfortunately no Seat Select available on the Saab. Using the Air Chathams PNR on their website just results in an error message reading "no seat select available for interline bookings". You can however specify a seating request (window/aisle ect) when making the booking.
ReplyDeleteThis interline is an absolute game changer for Regional New Zealand. Hopefully look forward to having this rolled out to WAG & PPQ in the future.
There was talk a while back (when the Government announced its aviation support package) of Whakatane returning to a more business friendly schedule. I'm really hoping we will see this sometime next year, Currently the schedule absolutely sacks!!!
Excellent news for Whakatane, and hopefully Whanganui and KapitiCoast. I know a lot of work has gone into making this work, so I hope its super successful for Air Chathams and Whakatane. Loved looking on the website before and seeing the aircraft operating type as Saab 340A. A throwback to some Air Nelson days
