New Trans-Tasman Air Freight Service





Crossing the Tasman over the last couple of weeks is Airwork 1 from Auckland to Sydney and-Airwork 2 operating the return flight. The flights have been operated by Boeing 737-400 ZK-TLM with departures last week on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday evenings connecting with FDX77 in Sydney with a Saturday afternoon flight as well. The first flight was operated on the 21st of January 2020.

There is a little information about this on the FedEx website as follows...

We are delighted to inform you that effective January 31, 2020, FedEx and TNT will enhance their Trans-Tasman lane service, connecting New Zealand-Australia-New Zealand between Auckland and Sydney, 5 times a week. The enhanced service will improve transit times and feature of service, offer larger cargo capacity, connect a key trade lane moving FedEx and TNT Australia freight to New Zealand (bi-directionally) and provide scalability for worldwide New Zealand retail freight growth.  


FedEx Trans-Tasman service connects you to more people and possibilities with our overnight express delivery between Auckland – Sydney – Auckland which is scheduled to operate five times a week. We now offer better transit times and service benefits on our key trade lanes. This enhanced service presents new trading opportunities for New Zealand businesses through better connections to the rest of the world and stronger Australasia service.

Trans-Tasman Key Benefits
  • New Auckland-Sydney-Auckland service is scheduled to be connected five times a week (Monday - Thursday, Saturday).
  • Higher cargo capacity.
  • Enhanced service quality and efficiency through the strong TNT domestic network in Australia.
  • Activation of International Economy Distribution (Coming in April, 2020).
  • Support of heavyweight shipments to and from New Zealand (Coming in April, 2020).

Additional Flights



Sounds Air have added an extra service on weekdays between Wellington and Nelson to their schedule! 

Beginning Monday the 2nd of March 2020, Sounds Air will be operating a new Wellington-Nelson flight departing at 10am, and a new Nelson-Wellington flight departing at 11am. The flights will be operated by Sounds Air's Cessna Caravans.

Two more Airbus 320s and runway resurfacing

Before I came to Norfolk Island I only had one of Air New Zealand's new Airbus 320s, ZK-NHB... In previous post you can ZK-NHD and then in the last few days I have taken a couple more

Behind the two Airbuses is Mt Pitt, the second highest point on Norfolk.... the higher point by 2 metres is Mount Bates - it is above the tail of ZK-NHA

This ship is currently is at Norfolk delivering 26,000 tonnes of material for the resurfacing of the runway with another ship due this week 

The tug and barge unloads the ship... there is something like 33,000 truck movements to move the material to the airport

Kiwi Jets at Norfolk

At Norfolk Island on 17 January 2020 was Toll Boeing 737-400  ZK-TLJ... It was here with a freight flight after the last ship from Australia didn't get it... There are big issues with the shipping service to from Australia to Norfolk ending after the next four sailings!
