Okiwi to be sealed

I found this on the Seal Okiwi Airstrip facebook site...

Update as reported in the Barrier Bulletin 18th October 2013
"the green light has been given for the seal at Okiwi Airport. This week Richard La Ville, Engineer's Representative on the project, informed the Bulletin that the contract has been awarded to local contractor Coles Equipment. THere were four tenderers, two based on trucking materials from Blackwell's Quarry and two based on barging the metal into Port FitzRoy. All aggregate and materials will be barged into Port FitzRoy. It is expected that piping for drainage will be the first of the materials to arrive later this month and groundwork will commence in early November. Target for completion is late January but is dependent on weather for both the work and the barge operations".

New Kapiti-Christchurch Flights Begin

 

 

Today marks the commencement of new Air New Zealand flights between the Kapiti Coast and Christchurch. The flights are being operated by Air Nelson's 50-seat Bombardier Q300s. The first southbound flight was operated by ZK-NEO while ZK-NEF is earmarked to fly the first northbound service.  This is the first time Paraparaumu and Christchurch have been connected by an air service in 23 years. From 1983 until 1990 Associated Air operated a Paraparaumu-Blenheim-Christchurch service (see http://3rdlevelnz.blogspot.co.nz/2010/05/associated-air-paraparaumus-friendly.html). The new Air New Zealand Link service will operate on a daily basis. From today Paraparaumu will have two daily flights to Auckland as opposed to three which have been operating up until now.

Aborted Take off At Auckland

 

 

The following was reported on Stuff this afternoon...

 

A chartered aircraft flying an Air New Zealand service has come off the runway after aborting its take off at Auckland International Airport. The Vincent Aviation Jetstream flight operating an Air New Zealand/Eagle Airways service to Taupo had 14 passengers and two pilots aboard. No one was hurt in the incident just before 3pm and while the runway was closed, forcing aircraft diversions, it has since reopened. A Stuff photographer saw the aircraft towed back from the side of the runway. It was taken to the Skycare executive terminal showing no obvious signs of damage. Luggage was being unloaded and the passengers were put on another flight to Taupo that left at 4.30pm. Metservice records indicate there was a 33 kilometre per hour wind from the south west at the time of the accident.

The headline was however, overly dramatic - Lucky escape for plane at Auckland

 

Why was it lucky??? Perhaps Aborted Take off At Auckland might have been a better description. Certainly this would more apt since we didn't know what the problem was and what the crew had to contend with!

Consultation on the draft National Airspace and Air Navigation Plan has begun. Submissions are invited by 3 February 2014.

The draft National Airspace and Air Navigation Plan sets out New Zealand’s Plan for the modernisation of our airspace and air navigation system over the next decade. It outlines the practical steps we all need to take to transition to new technologies and manage airspace as demand increases.

Some of the changes proposed in the draft Plan are significant. They may require you to install new aircraft equipment, develop new procedures and undergo training.

Airspace and Air Navigation Plan Consultation Workshops

To help you to understand the proposals in the draft Plan, and to give you an opportunity to provide us with direct feedback we would like to invite you to attend one of our consultation workshops being held in November.

At the workshops, we will explain the proposals and seek your views on them. The workshops are free of charge and include lunch. You will need to register your attendance via email at consultation@caa.govt.nz by Sunday, 10 November 2013.
