Texel Air's Boeing 737-8B5(BCF) ZK-TXE operated into the Chatham Islands today as TNZ176 / TNZ175 and being the first Boeing 737 to use the recently extended runway.

Our boat has been out of action over the winter as has been well publicized in the media. However has been back plying its trade since mid July. Recently there was an issue with the Southern Tiare's Crewing Requirements. This caused a severe delay to a Island bound sailing, thus delaying all other voyages, including over to Pitt.
The flights are bringing infrastructure needed for our new wind farm, as well as other time critical supplies. Would be great to see this become a regular thing. Especially given the Southern Tiare is very much on its last legs and we cannot keep going without basic necessities when the boat is on survey.
A similar return flight was operated on the 24th of October 2024.
Did a fantastic low and slow fly by over Waitangi at 1500ft, before heading out over Hanson Bay and back in to land on 23. A weird sound hearing the roar of a Jet Aircraft scream overhead. Certainly a different sound to the ATR or the Convair. AKL-CHT in 1hr30mins! 45mins quicker than the average ATR flight.
ReplyDeleteDidn't manage to get out to Karewa to have a look, but I was told they were on the ground for 90mins or so. Still hoping this could be made a regular thing.
By all accounts, this has the nose of AirChats out of joint. Not surprised as whispers have it they were in discussions with Airwork for assistance during some of their peak. Just another example of Texel “borrowing” business!
ReplyDeleteAppreciate it would have had a nice feel to it for air chats to run the first 737 into tuuta, but hey-business is business.
DeleteSo Air Chats has it's nose out of joint because a client didn't want to wait for them to try and sort out a 737? Newsflash Air Chats, business doesn't stop just because you can't deliver
