Flying between Whangārei and Kaitaia this week on the medical commuter flights between the two centres has been Skyline Aviation's Beech C90 King Air ZK-ZZA. Through the grapevine it appears that Skyline Aviation has picked up the contract for these flights. This week the flights have been flown on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
Sunair's last operation of the medical commuter flights were operated on the 9th of July before their grounding and were flown in Piper Aztec ZK-DIR.

Pressurised, approved for flight into known icing turboprop vs 50 yr old piston, not approved for flight into known icing conditions - I know which is prefer to be on….
ReplyDeleteFYI ZK-DIR is actually 56 years old, for accuracy.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that is obvious from this is how the health authority isn’t using aviation consultants when awarding contracts—how else does an ‘all-weather’ contract go to an operator whose aircraft aren’t even certified for flight into icing? This is what we’ve come to: a third-world nearly, relying on 60-year-old bangers to reach hospitals because our government has failed to invest in infrastructure, roads, or subsidies modern certified aircraft.
