Further talks are planned this month between Air Chathams and Air New Zealand over an inter-line agreement. The national carrier has continued to resist approaches for an arrangement with the new operator to enable passengers to book from Whakatane to other destinations beyond Auckland, in both directions. Air Chathams Chief Executive Craig Emeny says he re-opened the process with Air New Zealand last month, and formal talks are set down for early this month. He says it's not just for Air Chathams' convenience. He says where it is important is to ensure that the Eastern Bay of Plenty is kept on the map, and not bypassed. He says it's important people have information on getting into Whakatane. It's all about visibility.

No reason for Air NZ to have an interline agreement that would divert pax from their southbound TRG and ROT flights.
ReplyDeleteInterline makes sense for pax and for Air Chathams. Bit sadly I have to agree with the above statement. Especially with 2/5 TRG - WLG flights and all TRG - CHC flights going ATR next year. Air NZ will be wanting some of these WHK people to take advantage of the cheaper fares on offer.
DeleteGood on Craig though for pursuing it!! Has Air NZ ever had a regional interline agreement with anyone in the past?
This will never happen.
ReplyDeleteA clapped out Metro or PC12 won't fit with the Star Alliance protocol.
Am sure Star Alliance requires all aircraft to feature a stand up cabin...
DeleteI wouldn't imagine Star Alliance is the issue. Interline agreements aren't the same as code shares, Air NZ interline with QF for instance. It makes no sense for this to happen anyway, but I would be interested to know if Air Chats even have a reservation system capable of what they are proposing.
ReplyDeleteYes they do. Air New Zealand handles Check In for Air Chats at WLG and CHC and previously NPE and AKL. Air NZ boarding passes with Air Chathams on it
DeleteLets all support air Chathams to get A inter-agreement make it a lot easy from Whakatane to Wellington
