Sounds Air has announced that with the completion and reopening of State Highway One north of Kaikoura the airline will no longer continue operating the Blenheim - Kaikoura route into the new year. All flights on this route scheduled before the 31st of December will operate as usual. The Sounds Air website shows the last flights will be flown on the 29th of December. Only Charter Flights will be available to and from Kaikoura after 31 December.

Sensible, but what a shame. With no Coastal Express rail service until late next year, and the road not at all finished...might have been a bit premature? Especially for those wanting a day trip to Kaikoura?
ReplyDeleteSounds Air has done a marvellous job keeping Kaikoura connected to Blenheim while the road has been closed - all for for DHB, Councils etc as well as a good link north. The Caravan was not ideal - it couldn't operate with a full load out of Kaikoura - max 10 POB. What I would like to see is a KBZ-WLG... the Caravan is too big, but how about this for a scenario, Golden Bay Air, Air Kaikoura or Ridge Air operating this as a schedule.
ReplyDeleteGood thinking even a link to CHC again. Wings over Wales do a few charters to the CHC airport terminal to drop passengers off who connect onto International flights.
