On the 5th of August 1937 Cook Strait Airways had its only accident. De Havilland DH89A Dragon Rapide ZK-AEE was operating the company's Nelson-Greymouth-Hokitika and return service when, while taxiing at the Hokitika aerodrome, it struck a soft patch of ground and went up on to its nose. It was travelling slowly at the time and little damage was done, being confined to the nose, propellers and undercarriage. The pilot was Mr. A. Orchard and his fours passengers were not injured.
