This blog started off by focussing on NZ's smaller 3rd level airlines, past and present. It has evolved to trying to present some record of NZ's domestic airline operations and some of the larger charter operators, interesting NZ international airliner movements and photos I have taken around the country. Good question... Air2there are the same price for the southbound flight and $3 cheaper for the northbound flight which operates via Nelson. I wouldn't have thought there would be enough traffic for both
My guess would be that marketing will play a big role in who will come out best. I dont believe that there is enough of a market to have up to 5 caravan flights to blenheim a day. By of some of the comments I have seen and heard, quite a few people were unaware that there already is a service to blenheim prior to sounds airs decision to operate the route.
It would be bit of a shame if Sounds Air try to out compete air2there... As Sounds air would crush them!!! Why not have some sort of gentleman's agreement you know, as air2there are never going to compete with sounds air now and in the future are they...? Haha maybe sounds air could have a go at subsidiaries.....? Buy air2there out then like Eagle air, get some aircraft to operate the "other routes" air NZ will be stopping.... Yes no...?
Air2there and Sounds Air did code share for a time but it did not last long see... http://3rdlevelnz.blogspot.co.nz/2013/05/cook-strait-commuter-changes.html
I suspect the agreement between the two didn't last long because (so I'm told) a large number of Air2there's passengers made a permanent move to Soundsair and simply cut out the former. The two operations are not even in the same league.
Where does this leave Air2there?

DeleteSimple answer is because that is illegal and the CEO would end up in prison and both companies paying a very large fine.
