Air New Zealand says demand for its temporary Wellington to Kerikeri direct service is going “exceptionally well”. The national carrier announced on Thursday a week-long service linking Northland to the capital from September 13. It’s in response to the latest Covid alert levels, which has seen Northland cut off as the Auckland region remains in level 4 while the rest of the country is on 2. Air New Zealand Chief Customer and Sales Officer Leanne Geraghty says the reaction to the new service has been hugely encouraging. The service is only available from September 13-21 at this stage. ”Services from Kerikeri-Wellington have sold out on the current dates except two which is fantastic news,” said Geraghty. “Our Wellington–Kerikeri service is also looking strong in terms of bookings. It’s good to know this service is being well received by locals in Northland and by others around the country wanting to visit the winterless north.” Far North Mayor John Carter said he’s delighted to hear of a strong uptake. ”Northland is a bloody beautiful region with the loveliest people. Why wouldn’t people want to visit?,” said Carter. He also stressed, however, that travellers will still have to adhere to all Covid regulations while visiting: “It’s the most important thing.” The service could be extended depending on alert levels, and asked if it could become more permanent, Geraghty said: “We’re constantly reviewing our network to provide better connections for Kiwis to travel around Aotearoa.”
