25 years ago... December 1986

From the archives...

Mount Cook Airline's Hawker Siddeley 748s added colour and that wonderful Rolls Royce Dart engine sound to the NZ aviation scene...  Christchurch, December 1986. Photo : S Lowe
The Pegasus was airborne... Newmans Air operated their two De Havilland Canada Dash 7s up and down the country. One overnighted at Christchurch each night... Above, ZK-NEW arriving home at Christchurch on 9 December 1986 and below ZK-NEX on 10 December 1986. Photos : S Lowe

However, the Dash 7, the Pegasus and the Newmans name were soon to leave New Zealand skies. The arrival of the first De Havilland DHC-8 Dash 8 Series 100 ZK-NEY in Christchurch on 15 December 1986 sporting Ansett Newmans titles, pictured above, signalled the beginning of the end. Photo : S Lowe
Keeping with the De Havilland flavour of the month, Greymouth based Coast Air's days of operatind De Havilland Canada Twin Otter ZK-OTR (pictured above at Christchurch on 14 December 1986) were about to end. A week later Piper Navajo ZK-JGA was on the run (below). Photo taken at Greymouth on 21 December 1986. Photos : S Lowe
