I missed last month's 50th anniversary of Mount Cook Airlines scheduled airline operations. Services began on the 6th of November 1961 with three flights a week being operated from Christchurch on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday to Mount Cook, Queenstown, Te Anau and Manapouri. The Mount Cook lily became such a familiar sight in New Zealand skies and are sadly missed. Wouldn't it be great to see one of the new ATRs in full Mount Cook colours, but then, we don't even know if Mount Cook Airlines will operate them. The event of November 1961 was recorded in the NAC Skylines newsletter of that month.
