On Monday 6 December 2021, without any fanfare, Originair commenced their new air service between Napier and Hamilton. The inaugural flight, OG721, was flown under the command of Captain Murray Vincent and First Officer Jan Meyer in BAe Jetstream 32 ZK-JSJ. The inaugural service had twice been delayed by Covid lockdowns.
