25 years ago... September 1986

One of my projects at present is scanning all my negative into the computer... Here is a glimpse at what was happening 25 years ago.

Newmans Air was operating its DHC Dash 7s from Auckland to Queenstown... a Newmans' engineer told me that the aircraft had to have a 108% load factor to make a profit on the Rotorua-Christchurch sector. These days Auckland sees three flights a week into Auckland by China Southern Airlines, with a daily service to start on 1 November 2011. In 1986 it was rare for a Chinese jet to visit. Civil Aviation Administration of China Boeing 707 was at Christchurch on 14 September 1986. Photo S Lowe
Classic Air restarted DC-3 Freighter services in New Zealand on the 15th of September 1986. A few days later their Douglas DC-3, ZK-AMR, is seen at Christhcurch on 25 September 1986. Photo : S Lowe
