This blog started off by focussing on NZ's smaller 3rd level airlines, past and present. It has evolved to trying to present some record of NZ's domestic airline operations and some of the larger charter operators, interesting NZ international airliner movements and photos I have taken around the country. MCU's Arrival
Thanks to Alex Parker who caught the arrival into Auckland of Air Chathams' latest acquisition, ATR 72-500 ZK-MCU.
ATR 72-500 ZK-MCU arriving into Auckland on 6 May 2022
The sad demise of Convair 580 at Auckland on 6 May 2022
According to the NZ Civil Aviation Register MCU is still owned by Air NZ.
Would also note she has been delivered in the black and white Air NZ current scheme (sans other markings) whereas, iirc, MCO when procured was painted in Air Chats colours before delivery. On the face of it - it does suggest a lease. Time will tell.
I'm just going to say it - I've never understood why Air Chats has such a large fleet size, yet most of the time they're just parked in AKL. I understand they need redundancy but I still can't really understand the business sense of buying more aircraft when so many aircraft spend their days on the ground.
Happened to be out at the Airport today , the sounds coming from the hanger where CIE is currently housed were not pleasant to say the least.
ReplyDeleteHow many ATR do Air Chats operate?
ReplyDeleteSoon to be 2.

Deletecheers. What’s the cargo capacity of the ATR on the Chathams route - is it greater than the Convair?
ReplyDeleteDid Air Chathams buy MCU or have they entered into a dry leasing agreement with Air NZ?

Its a purchase, unlike MCO it didn't come with fresh C check and paint job. It will get its turn soon enough.
DeleteWould anybody be able to confirm ZK-CIB is still complete?
ReplyDeleteWould anybody be able to confirm if ZK-CIB is complete?

ReplyDeleteWill be flown to WKA when they are ready down there. Going to make an awesome display!
