Air National still firmly on the ground

The director of Civil Aviation has extended a ruling grounding the country's largest charter airline for at least a further 10 working days. Air National’s charter fleet was grounded by the Civil Aviation Authority two weeks ago for what was described as an appalling history of non-compliance with minimum safety standards, culminating in the discovery of falsified training records. The company has never experienced a crash but it is understood some pilots have quit citing safety concerns. Air National was flying regular charters for Air New Zealand and also runs the private planes of some of the country's richest men.
