The Aviation Historical Society of New Zealand Journal of 2 June 1969 recorded the following interest statistics:
NAC RECORD (NAC - National Airways Corporation)
The Corporation had its busiest day at Christchurch Airport since it began operating from there, on Friday 9 May 1969. Inward passengers totalled 1793 and outward 2260. 77 flights took place including eight by chartered Air New Zealand Electra, DC-3 ZK-AOD and HS748 ZK-CWJ of Mount Cook Airlines. The start of school holidays, the closing of Wellington airport and the closure of Wellington Harbour all contributed to the extra activity. (Closure as a result of wreckage from the Cook Strait Ferry "Wahine" breaking up from its tragic demise the month prior).
