Unscheduled Emergency Landing at Hamilton

An Air New Zealand plane has made an emergency landing in Hamilton this morning after one of its engines shut down mid-flight. A spokesman for the Fire Service said there were 101 people on board the Boeing 737, which was on its way from Auckland to Wellington. A spokesman for Air New Zealand said early indications were that the problem was most likely caused by low oil pressure. "Engineers will go and have a look at it this afternoon."  He said the plane landed normally and safely. The Fire Service originally thought the plane would turn back and land at Auckland Airport, but a decision was made to divert it to Hamilton Airport.
