This blog started off by focussing on NZ's smaller 3rd level airlines, past and present. It has evolved to trying to present some record of NZ's domestic airline operations and some of the larger charter operators, interesting NZ international airliner movements and photos I have taken around the country. The End of Eagle
Beech 1900 ZK-EAH waiting at Hamilton before flying the last services from Eagle Airways... HLZ-PMR-WLG-PMR-HLZ... As sad day...
Looking forward to slightly more space in the Q300s but I do hope that HLZ-PMR-WLG-PMR-HLZ remains sustainable. Otherwise Palmy could go from 5 destinations to 2 in just 3 years.
Yes but when your work only book you on Air NZ the above comment still stands. And there-in lies one of the biggest issues for smaller players in the market - dealing with company travel policies that allow for one national carrier.
HLZ-PMR is a good run if they go at peach times... WLG-PMR will be light... all pax transhipping to other services... I have been on HLZ-WLG services and vv where pax are transhipping to/from PMR as the flight is full or not good timings
I would have loved to have flown on the PMR-HLZ flight tonight. I wanted to fly WLG-PMR on Waitangi weekend and discovered there's no flights at all between December 25 and Feb 5. Queried if that was an error and no, it's on purpose. Even asked to put flights on for February 4 and 5. Answer still no, so not the best first efforts to keep the route sustainable.
Gosh I miss the morning wake up call over Hamilton at around 0610. Bantams (the noisiest), Metros then Beeches AKL bound. Also a great pacer for my morning jog around the river, had to be in a certain spot for when those distinctive lights would appear overhead. Great to rise on as well.

DeleteI wonder what the economics of a Q300 doing HLZ/PMR/WLG service?
DeleteIt least it would be a better utilization of a Q300.

ReplyDeleteMakes sense given this is strongly a business route. Very very lite loadings when Q300 has been placed on it over weekends.
DeleteAnother check on the ANZ site today has revealed there are WLG-PMR flights between December 25 and Feb 5 (plus before and after).
DeleteMay have seen you Steve..Was,on the PMR-WLG Flight
ReplyDeleteI was slightly shocked to hate seen no news items on the final service considering Eagle's long history. Will you be posting a trip report ?
ReplyDeleteThe media are Too busy writing negative rubbish about insignificant non news worthy airline items.
DeleteYou mean copy and pasting from facebook.. NZ media doesn't write anything.

ReplyDeleteSeems weird having a Q300 on the apron all day today between the morning and afternoon services. Seems like a waste of a machine?
ReplyDeleteSame would have applied to the Beech that did the morning and afternoon HLZ-PMR-WLG-PMR-HLZ runs.
