Covid-19 Forces Suspension of Norfolk Island Service

The following post has appeared on the Air Chathams' website..

We will be flying to Norfolk Island as scheduled on the 20th March 2020 with a departure time from Auckland Airport of 11:00am and returning from Norfolk Island with a departure time of 1:20pm local Norfolk time.  This will be the last opportunity for people on Norfolk Island to return to New Zealand on a direct Air Chathams flight until further notice.

All flights after the 20th March 2020 will be suspended as we wait for further updates and information on travel restrictions and self-isolation periods.  Passengers who have booked a Full Economy airfare (classes Y and H) will be eligible for a full refund on request.  All other fare classes booked will receive an EMD (credit note) valid for 3 months.  In the coming months we will be able to assess the situation with more information and reach out to customers with credit to discuss their options.

We thank you for your patience as we work through the current situation.

Travellers to Norfolk Island will be required to self-isolate for 14 days. This is the same for all Australian international ports.  All passengers returning from Norfolk Island will also be required to self-isolate for 14 days.

Self-isolation means staying away from situations where you could infect other people - anywhere you may come into close contact with others (face to face contact closer than 1 metre for more than 15 minutes).  This includes social gatherings, work, school, child care, education institutions, faith-based gatherings, aged care and health care facilities, sports events, restaurants and all public gatherings.

  1. There is going to be a big change in domestic aviation within NZ over coming days. I suspect we will see significant cuts to sectors maybe even some short term suspensions to specific ports. Scary times indeed.

  2. On the Norfolk Island Facebook page I see a state of emergency has been declared on Norfolk Island. So this means no non essential travel to Norfolk Island. This means they won't be having any tourists even from Australia.
